ABOUT US
Seemeeu Vis en Chips was established in December 2025 by lifelong friends Dirk Theron and Japie Joubert, born out of resilience, faith, and the determination to provide for their families.
After being retrenched and facing 18 months without income, Dirk and Japie found themselves at a crossroads. Instead of giving up, they chose to take matters into their own hands and turn a difficult chapter into a new beginning. What started as a desperate situation soon became a dream built on hard work, trust, and a shared vision.
Before opening their doors, the two friends approached Tannie Barbara, the original owner of the first Seemeeu Vis en Tjips, to ask for permission to use the beloved name. She agreed — on one important condition: that they would always sell fresh fish daily and never frozen fish. This promise became the heart of Seemeeu Vis en Chips, and it remains a commitment we proudly uphold every day.
With careful planning, exploration of options, and valuable guidance from the owner of the Ou Bakhuis building, Dirk and Japie learned the ins and outs of running a takeaway business. With the creative help of Riaan, the vision came to life — a beautifully designed space inspired by the seemeeu and the interior of a ship, creating a warm, nautical atmosphere that reflects both tradition and freshness.
Today, Seemeeu Vis en Chips is more than just a takeaway — it is a story of perseverance, community support, and a promise of quality. Every meal served represents fresh fish, honest value, and the belief that even in the hardest times, something truly special can be built.
